Carefully designed wild swimming walks and experiences, or close to water winter walks, in Northumberland and the North Pennines. They can be one-to-one, or for small private groups of 2-4 people.
The set routes last roughly 3-4 hours for a half day, 6-7 hours for a full day, or 1.5 hours for a snippet, but they can be adapted if you’re worried about your fitness or mobility, or are quite simply knackered and need an easy time of it!
The waterfall pools are safe to swim in from late Spring through to early Autumn. In Winter we have the option of a swim in the sea, or a walk by waterfalls, rivers and the coast, without the swimming bit. Some river and waterfall pools are swimmable come the darker months, weather and water conditions depending, but I’ll only be offering these as part of my tailor made options.
See my general booking page for further details about a tailor made experience, or one of the specials.
1. Hidden Cheviots Waterfall

A morning (3-4 hours) spent walking to, and swimming in, a beautiful hidden waterfall pool, deep in the Northumberland National Park. We meet at the Wedder Leap car park at Barrowburn, at a time of your choosing between between 9 and 10.30 am, before walking up into the hills to our lovely swimming spot – a deep waterfall pool, enjoying incredible views all the while. The circular walk is 5.2 miles in total, and there is some uphill (not too steep), so reasonable fitness will be required, but we can take our time.
Available May 1st through to September 30th. Fees start at £105 for a one-to-one, with discounted rates for a private group of 2-4 people.

2. North Pennines Waterfall Experience

Wild swimming in 2 stunning waterfalls in the North Pennines, plus a watery surprise! 3-4 hours. We meet at a time of your choosing between 9 and 10.30am, in the lovely village of Garrigill, in the Cumbrian part of the North Pennines – a designated National Landscape, and UNESCO Global Geopark. We then enjoy a very scenic walk to our first swimming spot – a glorious waterfall pool, nestled deep in the woods. After we’ve taken our fill of the waters there, we then carry on a little way to see the watery surprise – very much a ‘wow!’ moment, before heading to our second swimming spot – a hidden waterfall pool. The total amount of walking is just over 2 miles, but there’s no significant uphill, and this is a leisurely walk.
Available May 1st through to September 30th. Fees start at £105 for a one-to-one, with discounted rates for a private group of 2-4 people.
3. Fire and Water – Sea Swim Snippet

A 1.5 hour taster of the North Northumberland coast – a designated National Landscape, in all its glory. We meet at a small (free) car park either close to Amble, or to Boulmer, before walking a short distance to a beautiful quiet, sheltered, shallow bay for a swim. The walking is easy, but the rewards huge! If you don’t like swimming out of your depth, these spots are perfect.
After we’ve dressed, I’ll help us get toasty by lighting up my special portable wood burning stove on the beach, which we can then huddle around warming our hands, whilst drinking whatever hot beverage of choice you’ve brought in your flask.
If you’d like to, we can also practice a short (but powerful) ‘fire clearing ritual’, but don’t worry – this does not require you to walk over hot coals!

These sessions are available all year. Fees start at £45 for a one-to-one, with discounted rates for a private group of 2-4 people.
Winter Waterfall Walks
For when you need the water, but it’s not safe to immerse.
4. Three Cheviots Winter Waterfalls

A full day (6-7 hours) spent walking to and admiring, three beautifully remote waterfalls, deep in the Northumberland National Park. We meet at the Wedder Leap Car Park in Barrowburn at 9am, and then commence our adventure! This is a moderately demanding walk, so good fitness is required, but there’s never any rush and the route can be adapted accordingly. It is however unsuitable for dogs as we cross a beck which can be very full after heavy rain, meaning that we either need to jump over or wade through, and parts of the track are too narrow to have a dog on a lead. The route is 11 miles in total, with some uphill, which whilst not steep might be very muddy.
Available October 1st through to April 30th. Fees start at £175 for a one-to-one, with discounted rates for a private group of 2-4 people.
